Kolkata Police have issued a notification announcing the full closure of Durgapur Bridge (Derozio Setu) for vehicular movement from 14:00 hrs on June 28, 2025, to 06:00 hrs on June 30, 2025. The closure is being implemented to conduct a Load Test as part of the Condition Assessment work of the bridge. The testing is being undertaken by the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA).
The notice, issued under Notification No. TP./25 dated June 27, 2025, has been signed by Manoj Kumar Verma, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Kolkata. The restrictions have been enforced under Section 115, 116, 117, 122, and 126 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988; Sections 62 and 62(1B) of the Calcutta Police Act, 1866; Sections 39 and 39(1B) of the Calcutta Suburban Police Act, 1866; relevant traffic regulation rules; and the West Bengal Traffic Regulation Act, 1965.
As per the diversion plan, all types of vehicular movement on the Durgapur Bridge will be restricted for the entire 40-hour period. North-bound vehicles will be diverted from New Alipore Island, while south-bound vehicles will be diverted from the crossing of Alipore Road and Gobinda Auddy Road. These changes will be in effect for the duration of the load test.
The Kolkata Police have urged citizens to follow the diversion routes as notified to ensure smooth traffic circulation. The restriction applies exclusively to the Durgapur Bridge and aims to facilitate uninterrupted technical procedures required for the structural assessment of the bridge.
